Q. - What is "travel therapy"?
A. - Travel therapy is a position in which the therapist has the opportunity to work in multiple facilities consecutively. This allows for many different experiences and settings and gives therapists the flexibility to move about the country. For those interested in a permanent position, many therapists use a travel therapy assignment to exercise the "try before you buy" philosophy.
Q. - Do I have any say in where I work?
A. - Of course! Your wants and needs are always prioritized, and you have the opportunity to accept or turn down any position that is offered to you.
Q. - How long do I have to commit?
A. - Typically assignments last 3 - 4 months, at which point you have the option to move on to a different facitlity, or, possibly, extend your time at your current facility.
Q. - What about benefits?
A. - Most travel companies offer comprehensive beneifts package, including full medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, and life insurance, as well as a 401k. If you have your own medical coverage, tax-free stipends are usually offered as an incentive. For long-term employees of a travel company, vacation time is also provided. In addition, assistance is sometimes provided to aid with traveling expenses and licensure.
Q. - Where do I stay?
A. - A furnished, one bedroom apartment is always offered to you free of charge. As with your medical coverage, if you have other arangements for a place to stay, a generous, tax-free stipend is available.
Q. - How is the pay?
A. - Pay rates vary by location, but are always competitve and commisurate to the cost of living in the area that your assignment is located.
Q. - What does it cost me?
A. - Absolutely nothing. The only cost to you is the time it takes to fill out the paperwork.
Q. - How soon can I start?
A. - Depending on state licensure requirements, you can start as quickly as 2 weeks from application.
